BREAKING: Yankees’ Hank Steinbrenner dead at 63

 Per Joel Sherman, Yankees general partner and co-chairperson, Hank Steinbrenner, died early in the morning on April 14th.  His death at his Clearwater, Florida home was not COVID-19- related but was due to complications from an ongoing illness.

Steinbrenner was the oldest son of "The Boss," George Steinbrenner, and co-chaired the Yankees alongside his brother, Hal.  Following George’s death in 2010, he took “a more active role and displayed a resemblance to his father’s bold approach to running the club,” according to the Post.  Steinbrenner was in his 13th year as general partner and 11th as co-chairperson.

In a statement from the Yankees, Steinbrenner was “responsible for overseeing all areas of the club's business and baseball operations, including involvement in contract negotiations and the club's overall strategy.”  Another statement also noted that Steinbrenner was “direct and outspoken, but in the very same conversation showed great tenderness and light-heartedness.”

 UPDATE D 11/18/15 We’ve all heard it: The Yankees aren’t likely to be big spenders this offseason. Hearing this makes me chuckle as the Yankees have the dollars to field a $500 million pay roll if they wanted to, but their dedication to winning just hasn’t been there since the passing of good ole’ George.
