Position Preview: Pitching

Image
It’s obvious that pitching has been an issue for the Yankees over the past few years. It’s early, but through Spring Training, this year seems a little bit different. Starting from the top, you’ve got the ace, Gerrit Cole. The 300 million dollar man. He’s going to be leaned on a lot all year. Expect big things from him every five days on the mound. He is the leader of this staff. So far this spring, through 12 innings, he’s 3-0 with a 3.55 ERA and adds in 19 strikeouts. These are numbers we’re looking for, and we can only expect more during the regular season.

Yankees option Clint Frazier to Triple-A, recall Kyle Higashioka and Giovanny Gallegos

Image
Today, the Yankees announced that they have optioned outfielder Clint Frazier back to Triple-A and recalled catcher Kyle Higashioka from Triple-A, as well as reliever Giovanny Gallegos before their series opening game tonight in Philadelphia. With Brett Gardner returning from injury, Clint Frazier is the odd man out in the Yankees outfield and will see more time with Scranton Wilkes-Barre for now. The Yankees don't have a starting pitching issue

Image
Today I had a heated argument with a teammate of mine about the state of the Yankees. He was upset that the Yankees pursued Stanton because they “didn’t need him” and “need starting pitching.” I told him to shut up. I have HAD IT with people complaining about the Yankees starting pitching issues. Of course, if the Yankees don’t resign CC Sabathia, it would be wise to go out and get a guy to settle out the back end of the rotation. However, if they do bring him back, which I pray they do, the Yankees will thrive in 2018 with what they have.  In 2017, the Yankees starting rotation had serious question marks. Masahiro Tanaka was the ace without question, and he ended up having the worst year out of all five starters. Luis Severino was coming off a season where he was literally sent to the minor leagues and nobody could have predicted that he would end up in the AL Cy Young race. CC Sabathia had a great bounce back year, proving to be the Yankees “stopper”, winning 10 cons...

Greg Bird wins Yankees' starting first base job

After a year-long hiatus, Bird is the word once again in New York. After missing the entire 2016 season due to injury, slugger Greg Bird has been named the Yankees starting first baseman for the 2017 season.   Photo Credit: AP / Matt Rourke

Tanaka, baby bombers blank Mariners in series finale

Image
The Yankees opened the scoring in the first inning when Gary Sanchez, as predicted,  launched a solo bomb into the second deck for his ninth home run in his first 21 games, marking another Yankee record. In the bottom of the first inning Tanaka had a clean one-two-three inning after Aaron Judge threw out former Yankee Robinson Cano out trying to leg out a double to end the frame. How the Yankees Stack up vs. Division Foes

Image
About a year ago I wrote an article comparing the Yankees to their four division rivals at each position. Due to that article receiving good feedback I have decided to do the same. We know how 2015 ended, the Yankees made the play in game and were dominated by Houston Astros ace Dallas Keuchel. The Yankees went into the offseason at a bit of a crossroads. They addressed some issues and made drastic improvements while other needs have been left untouched by Yankees ownership.
