  Don’t let Sunday’s gritty come-from-behind win fool you. This Yankees team is still highly flawed and until they can prove otherwise, should not be counted on to win more games like they did on Sunday.

**all stats prior to last night's game vs. Toronto** Amidst a  two-month  struggle that has seen them drop below the Boston Red Sox in the American League East standings, there has been one glaring weakness with the 2017 New York Yankees: their ability to hit with runners in scoring position.   Following their win over the Los Angeles Angels o n June 12th , the Yankees stood at 38-23, a season high 15 games over .500 and  a full four games ahead of the Red So x.  Since then, The Yankees have combined to go 21-29 and have dropped  eight games in the standings to the Red Sox.    Photo Credit:  Jim McIsaac/Getty Images A quick look at the league leaders show the Yankees fourth in runs scored with 575  runs.  That's great, right? Why go any further. Well, let's examine that stat a bit more.   Over  their first 6 1 games, the team scored a  combined  358  runs, good for a rate of 5.8...

The Yankees entered this season with a promising, but aging lineup. The acquisition of Starlin Castro entering his prime brought excitement to the Bronx, and fans were also optimistic with the productive second half of Didi Gregorius. Likewise, Mark Teixeira and Alex Rodriguez were both coming off of 30+ home run seasons. Brian McCann had solid power production (though his batting average was lower than I would’ve liked) and Carlos Beltran was coming off a much improved season. Fans were left hoping that Jacoby Ellsbury would get back to his “normal” self, and that Brett Gardner could finally maintain a full, productive season where he wouldn’t just fall off in the second half. Lastly, we were hoping Chase Headley would improve defensively and maintain his status as a serviceable third baseman. Another day, another Yankees loss. Unfortunately, I've grown accustomed to uttering the aforementioned phrase due to their disgraceful 2016 performance. Throughout my twenty years on this Earth I have never seen a Yankees team this bad. I think I speak for every Yankee fan when I emphatically state that ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. I'm tired of hearing some fans make excuses for this team. "It's only May." "They'll turn it around soon." "These guys will play to the numbers on the back of their baseball cards." Why do so many fans share this sense of false hope? This Yankees team has shown no reason to make us believe they can right the ship any time soon, if at all. Never before have the Yankees been eight games under .500 during the Joe Girardi era (post-2009). I hate to break to some of you, but this team is not the 2005 Yankees, who got off to a similarly awful start. They do not have the talent and spunk to dig themselves out of what appears to be...

The Yankees lost Game 1 of this series last night by a score of 3-2 in 11 innings. Although Alex Rodriguez got the scoring started early with a RBI single in the first, he struggled the rest of the night, particularly in the later innings, and so did the Yankees offense. Although the bullpen was strong in its 5 innings of relief, one run is the difference between win and loss in extra innings, and Johnny Barbato, unfortunately, gave up his first earned run of the season and suffered his first loss of the season. Tonight, the Yankees look to rebound with Nathan Eovaldi (0-1, 6.94 ERA) on the hill, who faces Kendall Graveman (0-1, 2.38 ERA) of the Oakland Athletics. The Yankees dropped their third straight game tonight, losing to the Seattle Mariners 7-1. Despite having numerous opportunities to break the game open, the Yankees failed to get a single hit with runners in scoring position. Hopefully, this doesn't become a reoccurring theme, however the Yankees look strikingly similar to the team that struggled to hit in the second half of 2015. Another trend that continued tonight was the failure of Yankee starters to go deep into the game and give the bullpen some rest. Severino lasted only five and two thirds of inning, giving up eight hits and four runs. His record drops to 0-2. Tomorrow, the Yankees take on the Mariners once again, as CC Sabathia will face off against Felix Hernandez at 1:05 ET.
