A Star in the Making? The Case for Volpe for AL ROY

Image
After all that controversy, the Yankees made the only decision they could: slotting 21-year-old breakout sensation Anthony Volpe as the youngest Opening Day shortstop since The Captain.

ALDS Game 1 Lineup Prediction

Image
The Yankees have completed the regular season, closing out 2019 with a record of 103-59. Next up: ALDS Game 1 against the Minnesota Twins. Coming off a 101-win season of their own, the Twins will not be easy, so New York can’t afford to look ahead to a potential ALCS meeting with the Astros. With that in mind, it’s time to look at who will crack the starting lineup on Friday.   Photo Credit: MLB.com

What might a Didi Gregorius extension look like?

Image
For most of the offseason, amid the rumors surrounding Bryce Harper and Manny Machado, the Yankees were rumored to be seeking extensions with some of their impending 2019-2020 free agents; most notably Aaron Hicks, Dellin Betances, and Didi Gregorius. Exactly one third of those dominoes has now fallen, after Hicks and the Yankees agreed to a seven-year, $70 million extension early Monday morning. It was reported later that day that the Yankees were laying the groundwork on extending Betances as well. Next up for Yankees: Dellin Betances. Yanks are working on extending him. — Jon Heyman (@JonHeyman) February 25, 2019 With an extension reached with Hicks, and work being done on extending Betances, the only impending free agent left is Gregorius, who is one of the top all around shortstops in the game, and arguably one of the most fun players the Yankees have. If the Yankees choose to extend Didi as well, what might that look like? Abbie Parr/Getty Images

One can only guess and I made some predictions below*: Photo Credit: Getty Images

Predicting the 2018 New York Yankees Accolade Winners

Image
With pitchers and catchers reporting not too long ago, it won't be long before we have live baseball games to watch as spring training games are set to commence. To keep in the spirit of our recent 2018 season prediction articles here at BBB, I thought it would be a fun exercise to predict who will take home the Yankee accolades at the end of the year. Below you will find my predictions for who will be the Yankees' MVP, Cy Young, and Rookie of the Year. Via Bostonherald.com

Five bold predictions for the Yankees in 2018

Image
Opening day is quickly approaching and the excitement surrounding the Yankees heading into 2018 is at an all-time high. With the addition of Giancarlo Stanton to what was already a powerhouse of a lineup, the Yankees are once again a World Series or bust club. Expectations that George Steinbrenner lived by year in and year out when he was as at the helm. The Yankees are obviously no stranger to these expectations. They are well deserved considering it’s hard to imagine the Yankees not making the postseason in 2018 with the product they will put on the field. Here are five bold predictions that could be the difference between the Yankees being a solid contending team or being far and away the best team in baseball. Photo Credit: Getty Images

Predicting the Yankees 25-man roster for the 2018 season

Image
With spring training games just eleven days away, opening day of the regular season will be here in the blink of an eye. When camp starts, there will be approximately sixty players vying for 25 spots on the Yankees major league roster. While some of them are extreme longshots and others are merely prospects garnering some experience, there will be a plethora of competition in Yankees camp this spring. Despite the roster not lacking superstars and veterans, there are holes in the roster that need to be filled. In this article, I will predict who will be in the dugout on opening day alongside Aaron Boone and his new coaching staff. Photo Credit: SI.com

Ten potential September call ups for the New York Yankees

Image
On September 1, rosters expand from the normal 25-man limit to the entirety of a team’s 40-man roster. A team normally filled with established veterans, the Yankees are now infused with youth and are starting to feel the toll of a 162-game season. The Yankees remained relatively healthy throughout the first-half of the season, but have been bit with the injury bug in the second-half, and the team would certain accept with open arms a few reinforcements to rest regulars and help the team down the stretch.  Photo Credit: MILB.com

Five potential replacements on the roster for the injured Jacoby Ellsbury

Image
The Yankees suffered an injury on the first pitch of tonight’s game against the Kansas City Royals. Alcides Escobar crushed a ball to deep center off of Luis Severino that Jacoby Ellsbury caught behind his back, and then collided with the wall and fell awkwardly. He was very slow to get up, and Joe Girardi and Steve Donahue rushed out to the warning track in center field to check up on Ellsbury. They appeared to give him the concussion protocol, and he convinced them to allow him to remain in the game. Kathy Willens | AP Photo

New York Yankees All-Star predictions

Image
The New York Yankees have mightily exceeded expectations so far this season, and it is no mystery to why they have started so strong. They have gotten the most out of their roster, and the players as a whole have come out of the gates firing. The Yankees have had many players outperform their preseason projections and their young players are thriving earlier than expected. The question remains, however, how many of these players will travel to Miami in July to be a part of the Midsummer Classic? Photo Credit: AP

2017 Bold Predictions: The New York Yankees edition

Image
As we prepare for yet another season of Yankees baseball, I thought it would be pertinent to write my second annual bold predictions piece. First and foremost, it's hard to not look forward to the start of the 2017 season. Unlike in recent years, the Yankees are not an aging team comprised primarily of washed up veterans being paid money they are no longer earning. Granted, the Bombers do still have a few of those players left on the roster, but the story heading into 2017 is the youth movement. Bearing in mind the excitement felt by the fan base and my own personal feelings, I've compiled a list of 10 bold predictions for the 2017 team. Some may seem a bit more outlandish than others, but all are certainly possible. I'd like to preface the substantive portion of my piece by stating that I do not truly believe all of my predictions will come to fruition. I have a much dimmer outlook for the 2017 New York Yankees. While the Baby Bombers will indeed be exciting to watch, th...

Upcoming Yankees milestones

Image
Every season milestones are reached by many players and while some milestones are more significant than others, they’re all important to a baseball player’s career. With the departures of Alex Rodriguez, Mark Teixeira and Carlos Beltran, there aren’t many players on the Yankees roster reaching huge milestones, but there are still some milestones to be crossed. Here are some milestones Yankees players can pass in 2017, and I have projected the date they will reach them. Photo Credit: Chad Gusler

Luis Severino's future is still up in the air

Image
What does Severino's future hold? Will he be a part of the starting rotation for the Yanks from here on out? Or will he embrace his newfound role in the bullpen? Severino's future is still up in the air when it comes to what role he will fill after this season. There are many who argue that he'll become a real productive pitcher if he's limited to pitching one to two innings in relief, rather than having him pitch as a starter. Steven's Bold 2016 Predictions

Image
Yes, I understand the season is already underway, however I thought I'd get these predictions out sooner rather than later. I apologize in advance that I waited so long. As we know, there are a number of uncertainties surrounding the 2016 New York Yankees. Every team has their share of question marks, but in my opinion the Yankees have a relatively high amount. Is Starlin Castro enough to improve an offense that became borderline unwatchable towards the end of last season? Will the members of the rotation stay healthy, and achieve a level of consistency? Will the middle relievers be able to form an effective bridge to Betances, Miller, and Chapman (after he returns from his suspension of course)? Currently, I believe this is an 85 win team, with the potential to win 90 games if some of the question marks I described above are answered in the affirmative. Will that be enough to secure a wild card birth? Is this team drastically better than last season? Time will tell, but making pre...

With Opening Day finally here, we will run down the Bronx Bomber Blogger predictions for Yankees team accolade winners at season's end.

Aaron's 2016 New York Yankees Starters Projections

Image
Although the Yankees finally made it back to the postseason in 2015, they were abruptly eliminated in the Wild Card round which left Yankee fans disappointed. With exactly one week until Opening Day, I wanted to give you my projections for the 2016 New York Yankees lineup and rotation. The Yankees success will ultimately be determined by how healthy they can be over the course of the season. It will be interesting to see whether veterans like A-Rod, Teixeira, Beltran and Ellsbury can consistently produce over the next six or seven months. The acquisitions of both Starlin Castro and Aaron Hicks help add depth and stability in the lineup. The pitching rotation is a big question mark, but thanks to an improved bullpen the Yankees should be able to shorten ballgames and salvage a few more wins. Without further ado, here are my 2016 projections: Photo Via NY Daily News

Why the Yankees will win the AL East

Image
As spring training approaches, I thought it would be a good idea to assess the state of our beloved Yankees. Similar to last season, the Bombers have a number of question marks going into 2016. If most things break right, I can see them winning 90 games or more, likely leading to a division title. On the other hand, if these same question marks aren't answered affirmatively, I envision this team winning between 80-85 games. This piece will be the first of two. Here, I will review what needs to go right in order for the Yankees to recapture the AL East title for the first time since 2012. Wow, I still can't believe it's been that long. The second, which I should write in a week or so, will detail the opposite scenario. While the Yankees do and should control their only destiny, whether or not they end up division champions will equally be determined by the performance of our division rivals, in particular the Boston Red Sox and Toronto Blue Jays. Even though I would love for...

Five keys to a successful 2016

Image
Being trapped inside for the last two days due to the snowstorm that pounded the entire eastern seaboard has only enhanced my desire for the return of baseball season. Considering all indications from ownership point to the Yankees being done for the most part as far as additions are concerned, I felt as if now would be a prompt time to make some early predictions about the 2016 season. As I look at the Yankees team as currently comprised, I'm feeling the same sense of uncertainty as I did at this point last season. A successful 2016 season is contingent on production from players who are either old, injury prone, or in some cases, a combination of both. Normally, this would seem to be a recipe for disaster, however I'm going to try the optimistic route. Below, are what I view as the five keys to a successful 2016. In my view, each of the five are equally important. Unfortunately, the Yankees need a lot to go right in order for them to return to the postseason. Having one posts...
