I wrote recently here on the blog about Derek Jeter and the scheduled retirement of his iconic no. 2 in Monument Park this summer. The Yankees have certainly retired a lot of numbers throughout their history and have retired several more even within the last few seasons. Now following the retirement of Jeter’s number this upcoming season and the retirement of Joe Torre’s No. 6 during the 2014 season, the Yankees will no longer have any single digit numbers available in the future which is pretty remarkable considering that a lot of teams don’t even have nine (or in this case ten) players to consider retiring numbers for. As ridiculous as it may seem at times, if you ask any Yankee fan, I’m sure they would bring a strong defense for any of these players, but discussing those numbers that have already been retired is not why I’m here today. Instead, I’m going to look at and discuss a few candidates for the next number we could see the Yankees retire sometime in the future. Photo Cred...

So the baseball winter meetings have concluded and the Yankees made their moves inking Aroldis Chapman to the richest contract for a relief pitcher in history and bringing in Matt Holliday on a one-year deal presumably to be the everyday DH.  There are 58 days until the Yankees pitchers and catchers report to Tampa for Spring Training and we are to believe Brian Cashman's statements, we will be getting a very slow trickle of news out of Yankeeland until then. One of the greatest parts of being a New York Yankee fan is the history and tradition surrounding it. There really isn't anything like it in all of sports, never mind just in baseball. Monument Park is a great way to explain how most Yankee fans feel and how most non-Yankee fans feel about the Yankees. You'll hear the  non-Yankees fans say "There are too many retired numbers!" or "Is Luis Sojo going to have his number retired too?!" It is really just a fun debate to have, as in my opinion, everyone in Monument Park is deserving of having a place.  Now, there are some Yankee players not enshrined in Monument Park. I could go on and on about underrated Yankees. Today though, I wanted to focus on one that had a big role with the 1970's Bronx Zoo teams. His name? Roy White. Via: Photo File
