Yankees offense hitting its first rough patch of 2022
Don’t look now, but the Yankees might be hitting their first real rough patch of the season. While it’s hard to complain about a team with a 58-23 record at the midway point of the season, the Yankees have a crucial stretch of games coming up against the second-place Boston Red Sox, and the offensive has gone through a bit of a cold streak that hopefully doesn’t linger through those important games.

Something special is happening in the Bronx this summer. I know, I know, it’s only June 17. We’re only 63 games into a 162-game marathon season. I know I’m not the guy you expected to hear any optimism out of. But here we are, just under 39% of the way into a season I was sure was destined for a fourth-place finish, with the Yankees holders of the best record in Major League Baseball and the third-best 63 game start in franchise history. We've finally arrived. Opening Day is upon us. It's coming a week later than expected. The team doesn't look the way we expected them to when the offseason began six long months ago. But here we are. The Yankees chose not to make any of the marquee acquisitions Twitter lost their mind over all Winter, but at the end of the day they plugged some holes, and bring a much more versatile and athletic club into the 2022 season. Big nights from Frazier, Cooper lead Yankees to 11-5 win over Toronto
The Yankees looked to rebound from yet another dismal loss on Wednesday night as they sent Masahiro Tanaka to the mound against journeyman Toronto right hander Nick Tepesch . The Yankees' familiar RISP failures plagued them right from the start in this one but the bats ultimately woke up from last night's slumber as the Yankees poured it on late for an 11-5 win over the Blue Jays in a game highlighted by Todd Frazier and Garrett Cooper's big nights at the plate. Sabathia forced to exit early, Yankees lose to Toronto 4-1
For the Bombers all was well early, as Sabathia looked good coming off the disabled list, but things quickly fell apart for the veteran during the third inning. Since May 16 th Sabathia had the lowest ERA in the American League at a 0.99. However, after three weeks off, and no rehab starts the big lefty would not be long for today’s outing. As Toronto continues to try to dig out of the 1-9 hole they opened up the 2017 season with, they remain in last place with their current 19-26 record. Sitting at 8.5 games out of first place behind the Yankees, the Blue Jays could very quickly find themselves becoming sellers at this year’s trade deadline. We’re now eight games into the season and it’s abundantly clear that the Yankees will live and die with their boom-or-bust offense, so to speak. The Yanks were only able to scrape up three hits against Blue Jays ace Marcus Stroman, while he limited New York to just two runs over eight innings. Through the first three innings of the game, both Nathan Eovaldi and Marcus Stroman we’re cruising along.
