Prospect Spotlight: Jordan Montgomery

Image
Jordan Montgomery is a left handed pitcher who was selected in the 4th round with 122nd pick in the 2014 MLB draft to the Yankees.   After his selection, Montgomery started working his way up the Yankees farm system. In just two seasons, he has risen from rookie ball all the way to Triple-A. It is only a matter of time before his name will be talked within Yankees fans. Needless to say, Montgomery has the track record to back up his sudden rise. In his career, Jordan sports a 2.61 ERA in 60 games (56 starts) and shares a solid 25-14 record. Those statistics combine all his time in the farm system, and if you just single out this recent season, you can see the improvement he made. In 2016, he started all 26 games he appeared in had a 2.13 ERA (AA & AAA combined) and claimed to a record of 14-5. photo via MiLB.com

Jorge Posada Hall of Fame case

Image
The "Core Four"- Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera, Andy Pettitte, and Jorge Posada- has commonly been referred to as baseball's portrayal of how teamwork and hard work equate to success. Fans who lived through the 2000s know how crucial each one of these four legends was to each season of success. Those five championship rings situated in the museum located inside Yankees Stadium are largely thanks to these men.  Photo Credit: Kathleen Malone-Van Dyke/ Newsday

A fan's take on the state of the Yankees

Image
2016 was a year filled with some ups, but mostly downs for us Yankees fans. Just as Brian Cashman did his “State of the Yankees” address earlier this week, I will do my own version of where fans believe the Yankees are right now, and also how we got to this point. Thank you, Mark!

How can I start this off? As the 2016 season draws to a close, so does the career of our first baseman, the five-time gold glove winner (2005, 2006, 2009, 2010 ,2012), three-time All-Star (2005, 2009, 2015), and one-time World Series champion with the Yankees (2009), Mark Charles Teixeira. Reflecting back, I can personally say that I took Teixeira's presence for granted. Next season, we will be without our defensive powerhouse at first base, a presence that will be greatly missed in the infield. With his departure, the infield will no longer have any members from the 2009 championship team. The core of that 2009 team was destined for more winning, but it never came to fruition. That story can be told at another time because this is Teixeira's moment. Photo Credit: Jim McIsaac / Getty Images

Luis Severino's future is still up in the air

Image
What does Severino's future hold? Will he be a part of the starting rotation for the Yanks from here on out? Or will he embrace his newfound role in the bullpen? Severino's future is still up in the air when it comes to what role he will fill after this season. There are many who argue that he'll become a real productive pitcher if he's limited to pitching one to two innings in relief, rather than having him pitch as a starter. Is this Joe Girardi's last stand?

Image
28. Will this be the last September we ever see Joe Girardi’s number 28 jersey in the Yankees dugout? It is fair to argue that as fall baseball looms closer and closer, the Yankees are getting pulled further and further down the hole they try to climb out of countless times. Joe’s managing style this season has been a source of debate from pitiful outings, to failure to produce runs, to lack of motivation, and questionable pitching changes. It has caused me as well as other fans to question Girardi. Faith is something the fans and organization of the Yankees have. I have stayed faithful to Girardi; he brought a championship to a whole new era of fans, but is it time for a change? Photo Credit: Paul J. Bereswill | NY POST

How far can Gary go?

Image
Who would have thought that we'd be here? Up until their recent series against the Dodgers, the Yankees were playing the best stint of baseball we'd seen from them all year. Coming off a much needed seven-game win streak, the Yankees look more and more like a team with a chance to make the post season than they had in previous months. If you haven't been living under a rock for these past few weeks, you probably have heard of young slugger Gary Sanchez. Photo Credit: Jim McIsaac/Newsday
