Thoughts from the season that was

Image
Although some of the words you are about to read may sound like the candy coated rain drops you hear on the YES network, I assure you I am not a paid affiliate. I am just a fan that agrees with the rational things the Yankees have managed to do right.

I ain't afraid of no Blue Jays

Image
Believing that the Blue Jays will win the east is like believing the Phillies will make the playoffs because of their second half start. Both are a product of the coincidental matters that is baseball. Before I go any further, I just want to clear the air and let you know that I do not work for the YES network. So this writing will not be about polishing a turd. It's about what I have interpreted from this weekend series.

Shots Fired!

Image
It was but a mere week ago when everything felt like a box of fluffy ducks. Things were going so great that little Stephen Drew almost hit for the cycle and also almost cracked a .200 average in one at bat. Although he failed at his attempt we Yankee fans didn't care. The Yankees were looking so great that Drew's attempt was like watching a baby learn how to walk. They take a step or two, fall on their rear, and then we all laugh at how cute the effort was.

BBB Writers on the Yankee Trade Deadline

Image
With the trade deadline coming and going, one of the most exciting times of the baseball season has passed. Obviously, there are differing opinions on the Yankees trade deadline activity (or lack thereof), and that is also evident internally within the Bronx Bomber Blogger writers. So, we decided we’d share a few opinions that some of our writers here have. You’ll see a paragraph or more opinionated evaluation with whose opinion it was below the paragraph. Enjoy!

Troy Tulowitzki to the Blue Jays

Image
The Toronto Blue Jays have executed an armageddon like move of biblical proportions. They have drawn a line in the sand with the acquisition of one Latroy Hawkins. Without fail, every time I have seen him pitch, it was to give up a lead or crush any hope of rallying back. Thus why I gave him the nickname Latrine Hawkins. This is one heck of a reclamation project for the Jays!

I'd trade my momma for him!

Image
I can imagine trading a baseball player could be quite the task. At the minimum a calculated risk. You have to take into account the projection of the player you are looking to acquire versus the projection of the player (s) you will be giving up. Then there's the almighty pride that no team admits to. Will the players they give up come back to burn them? That's the reasoning behind not trading within one's division. Of course if you want to add more headaches to the confusion, add in the almighty sabermatricians who use what I can only describe as excel codes to determine such things as how many times a ball player chews his food before swallowing.

Refsnyder sent down

Image
Well it seems that 4 games and 12 at bats into it, Brian Cashman and the Yankee brass has had about all they could stomach. Robert Refsnyder should consider himself lucky for being called up in the first place as he does not even posses the pre-requisites for being a Yankee regular. He is not on the wrong side of 30, he does not reek of bengay and he's not overpaid.

Mid Season Pink Slip

Image
The MLBPA is one of the strongest unions in the world. They are known to protect the interests of players since 1966. That last sentence may or may not agree with you. Maybe you have a favorite player; you wish them the absolute best and are happy that they are being backed by this juggernaut union. But what if your home team is stuck with a contract. A player for which you cannot seem to fathom how someone could ever agree to pay them the dollar amount they are receiving to perform at a level that is not acceptable to you? Well there's nothing anyone can do about that scenario as there would be hell to pay for even suggesting it. If this union can protect Alex Rodriguez who at times had tsunami like turbulence with them during his PED battle, there's no telling what would be of attempting to void a major league contract. But what if we could suspend disbelief for a moment? What if we lived in a world where there was no players union and you were Czar Steinbrenner? What if yo...

A third baseball team in NY?

Image
The last time New York had three baseball teams was in 1957. Way before the Mets had their fans wearing paper bags over their heads, NY was home to the Giants and Dodgers. There were many battles between the three as at times, the Giants owned the Yankees and the Yankees owned the Dodgers (some say they still do). They have had their share of memorable moments as the Yankees finally took down the mighty Giants in the world series of 1923 after being beaten by them in 1921 and 1922.

2nd half Breakaway

Image
The Yankees have been running on muddy waters all year yet they are at a nose's length from finishing the first half of the season in first place. Coming off of an unconventional off season by their standards, they decided that instead of going for the high priced free agents, they would incorporate a new formula.

Adam Warren to the Pen (Rant)

Image
I shouldn't be upset but I am. I don't remember the last time any Yankees news incited anger out of me yet this one pinched a nerve. ESPN has reported that Adam Warren has been moved to the bullpen. I wrote a fierce defense on Warren not too long ago explaining how the move of Warren would be based more on politics than merit. Lo and behold, the Yankees made a genius out of me. Just a short while after the 3-8 with a 5.59 ERA Sabathia lost another game, the Yankees made their announcement. Interestingly enough it was made after the clubhouse was closed so Warren was not available for comment. That's about the only smart move in this whole situation the Yankees have executed.

All In

Image
I don't know you much but I woke up feeling like I wanted to stir you up. Let us all escape reality for a moment and enter the portal of anarchy. If you're an employee let's pretend your boss is out of town and crank up that music. You are married with kids but they left town so go ahead and pee with the door open. You live at home and your parents just caught a cab to the airport so go ahead and finish uploading that picture of the empty house on Instagram. Whatever your scenario is, it's time to eat some forbidden fruit. After we celebrate our temporary freedom, blurry lines transition our space into a scene out of an Arnold Schwarzenegger movie. You know the kind. That hidden room located on the other side of his walk-in closet that reveals a glorious amount of weapons. He bypasses the grenades, machine guns and even big Bertha that shoots actual nuclear missiles. The knives that can cut a deer in half, nothing disrupts his focus. His tunnel vision leads him t...

The Adam Warren Clock

Image
We often picture success as a horizontal line slanting upwards, reaching planes so high you can no longer see where the journey originated from. In hearing from those who have actually reached the mountain top so to speak, you come to learn that it is quite the contrary. Much like the lines in a heart monitor there are many ups and downs. It seems like every sports writer is asking how long Adam Warren is going to have to answer questions about the possibility of being taken out of the rotation and perhaps a demotion. Here I am wondering to myself, why should he even have to? Does no one see what is going on here?

A Yankee Mystery

Image
We are not even at the half way point of the season and I already feel like the Yankees are running out of time. I get the sense that soon enough another team from the AL east will figure things out and sprint ahead. Speaking of figuring things out, these Yankees have been harder to solve than Chinese Algebra. We might have a better chance of finding out why the Cardinals hacked into the Astros system before we solve the 2015 Yankee riddle. How I wish the FBI was involved in our dilemma as well.

Dynasty pricing

Image
Yankee Stadium can be a loud place. I'm not familiar with the acoustics of the ball park but I do know a thing or two about those who occupy it. We are passionate with a high volume and the mute button broken. You ignite us and so help us God, we'll make the weather turn on you. But I feel like the stadium's full potential has not been realized.

The Law, Aaron Judge on the Rise

Image
I bet you are all familiar with word association. I'll say a name and you say the first thing that comes to mind. For the common fan, when mentioning the name Aaron, you think of game 7 of the 2003 ALCS when Aaron Boone hit that walk off homerun off Tim Wakefield. As unlikely a hero as he was on that night, his name is sure to live on for centuries. For those passionate fans, the name Aaron is taking up a whole new meaning.

Meeting Willie Randolph

Image
Since today is the ceremony for Willie Randolph’s entrance into Monument Park, I wanted to give you a first person perspective of what it was like to meet him. I never had the privilege to see him play but it is not hard to see how esteemed he was amongst the organization as he was named co captain during his tenure with the Yankees. Through the screen of my television he always seemed likeable. He always seemed to carry himself well, even when he was treated unfairly. All this factored in with the respect I had for him for what he accomplished in his career. He was definitely on my wish list of Yankees I would hope to meet. The following took place in the summer of 2013 at a sports show.

The Eovaldi Experiment

Image
I have never been a fan of the idea of bringing in a National League pitcher over to the American League. Throughout the years my opinion behind this at times has been proved to be without merit. But I've also had plenty of "I told you so" moments. It takes plenty for me to be comfortable with seeing a National league pitcher taking the mound for my favorite team. I can't quite decide if it's because of the pride I have for the American League or the fact that I feel the National League will always face a weaker line up due to the fact that there is no designated hitter. Regardless of how I feel, or you for that matter, facts are facts. Why don't we throw the advanced math to the side for a while and look at some cold numbers.

Chuckles and Huffs - Joe Girardi

Image
I could spend my day avoiding social media, and avoiding a Yankee game. I could go straight to the Joe Girardi report and easily know who won the game before Bob Lorenz guides us through the night's highlights. If you play poker against Joe Girardi you shouldn't have a hard time taking his money. He's as obvious as the day brings light.

When Umpires Rule the World

Image
I want to take you back for a moment. Let's pretend its 2014 all over again but I want you to wipe the slate clean. Clear your memory of what occurred last year. Now let's go to Derek Jeter's retirement announcement. After the shock and rush of emotions settle into you I want you to make a prediction for me. What do you predict will happen in Derek Jeter's last season of baseball? Throughout his career he has had a flare for the dramatic. A homerun for his 3000th hit? You have got to be kidding me. It's as if it follows him everywhere. So what did you see happening during his farewell?
