2018 Pinstripe Preview: Jonathan Holder

Image
With one of the most feared bullpens in the sport, the Yankees are a force to be reckoned with. However in a stacked bullpen there is still some room for other Yankees to step up. As of right now, one guy who has a very bright future, if he is able to put it all together, is Jonathan Holder. Many people remember Holder for breaking his belt in his short stint with the Yankees back in 2016, but Holder had a very quiet 2017 season that showed he had a lot of major league potential. Holder, who is just 24 years old, was sent back in forth from the majors and the minors in his first two MLB seasons, but it is looking more and more promising for the hard throwing right hander as he made the team out of spring training. The Yankees should NOT trade for Gerrit Cole

Image
The Yankees pitching staff is debatably one of the best in the game, with names like Severino, Gray, Tanaka and Sabathia headlining the starting five. The Yankees have a core of talent that will compete every game until the last out is made. With names like Adams, Sheffield and Abreu, their farm system is also producing names that have shown success and who are projected to compete at the major league level. Over the last few weeks, Gerrit Cole and the Pirates have been rumored to be involved in a possible trade with the Yankees. Adding Cole to the staff will make the rotation a whole lot better and the Yankees would have a truly elite rotation.   Photo Credit: Getty Images

BBB writers react to Joe Girardi not returning in 2018

Image
After over two weeks of the news that Joe Girardi would not be managing the Yankees in 2018 broke, the BBB writers have had a chance to react to the news. One of the greatest things about the staff is that we have a wide variety of opinions regarding our New York Yankees, so here are a few of our writer's thoughts regarding the news that Brian Cashman elected to go in a different direction from Girardi as he continues building another potential dynasty in the Bronx. Analyzing the future of Gleyber Torres

Image
During the 2016 trade deadline, the Yankees made a blockbuster trade sending closer Aroldis Chapman to the Chicago Cubs for one of the top prospects in all of Major League Baseball. The top prospect’s name is Gleyber Torres. Torres, who will turn 21 in December, has been everything the Yankees had hoped for. In just over a year, Torres has proved that Cashman made the correct deal sending Chapman to the Cubs. Photo Credit: Barstool Sports

Matt Holliday should be the Yankees game five DH

Image
Going into the playoffs, there wasn’t a clear designated hitter for the Yankees. The lineup was set for the most part but the DH spot was up for grabs. So far, Joe Girardi has tried a combination of Jacoby Ellsbury and Chase Headley. However, both haven’t produced to expectations. Headley has gone 0-10 dating back to the beginning of the ALDS and Ellsbury has gone 0-8 dating back to the wild card game. The Cleveland Indians have dominated both hitters this series. There needs to be a change if the Yankees want to keep their postseason alive in 2017. There are a few options on the bench, but the Yankees should turn to the veteran Matt Holliday in game five.  Photo Credit: Elsa/Getty Images

Should Aaron Hicks or Jacoby Ellsbury start in center field in the Wild Card game?

Image
The Yankees outfield has had very great success in 2017. With Brett Gardner covering left field and Aaron Judge doing what he does in right field, that has left center field open. Two players have platooned the position all year due to injuries to their counterpart and each of them have seen success in 2017. The two players are Aaron Hicks and Jacoby Ellsbury, both of whom have seen injuries in the 2017 season but both have also seen great success when they have had a chance to play. With Ervin Santana pitching for the Twins in the Wild Card game, Joe Girardi has a serious question to address in the starting lineup. If they lose, its over. If they win, he can decide who to put out there for the rest of the postseason but they have to beat Santana and the Twins first. Lets see how Hicks and Ellsbury match up. Photo Credit: AP

Was Aaron Hicks' catch the play of the year?

Image
On Tuesday September 26th 2017, it was the top of the first inning and bases were loaded for Wilson Ramos of the Tampa Bay Rays. The pitch left Jordan Montgomery's hand, and it was heading right down the middle. Ramos geared up, drove the ball to right center field, and stared it down like he knew it was gone. A grand slam was about to fall into the Yankee bullpen, when out of nowhere, Aaron Hicks leaped. Timing his jump to perfection, Hicks was able to snag the ball, which would have landed a few feet over the fence. The play was reminiscent of one of those plays that children pretend to do in little league during warm-ups where they tell their friend to throw it over the fence, so they can jump and rob it. Unlike little league, the Yankees are a professional baseball team and are in a pennant race. The Rays scored on the play, as it ended up being a sac-fly. The score at the end of the game was in favor of the Yankees, as they went on to win 6-1. Was this the best...

Chase Headley's renaissance

Image
Coming into the 2017 season, there were many questions surrounding Chase Headley.   With an All-Star caliber year in 2012, many people were waiting until that Headley came to bat for the Yankees. In 2016, he had a pretty mediocre season as he batted .253 with 14 home runs and 51 RBIs. After starting off the 2017 campaign as hot has he did, Yankees fans everywhere were getting their hopes up to believing that maybe the 2012 Chase Headley was back to stay. Top ten Yankee nicknames from the inaugural MLB Players Weekend

Image
This past weekend was one to remember, as it was Players Weekend all around Major League Baseball. Players from every team wore their uniforms with character and had a whole lot of fun doing so. Each team created a custom jersey that each player would wear. It was then up to the players to wear whatever cleats, wrist bands, socks and other accessories that they wanted. This was the first time the MLB had allowed such a thing to happen, so it was definitely an entertaining, unique experience for the players. Photo Credit: AP

Opinion: Could Chad Green be the team MVP?

Image
The Yankees are said to have one of the best bullpens in baseball. With names like Chapman, Betances, Robertson, Warren and Kahnle, the rest of the platoon in the bullpen is often overlooked. One guy that has really stood out from the rest is right-hander, Chad Green. Green, who made his Major League debut just last year at the age of 24, struggled in his first season with the Yankees. With a 2-4 record and a 4.73 ERA in 2016, Green was hoping to bounce back in a huge way in 2017 and he has immensely exceeded expectations thus far. Photo Credit: NY Daily News With about six weeks left in the 2017 season and the Yankees fighting for a playoff spot, Green is expected to continue to help the Yankees in a huge way. So far, he has posted a 2-0 record with a 2.25 ERA in 45.2 innings. The Yankees bullpen was struggling for a majority of the season but Chad Green has been that one guy that skipper Joe Girardi could always count on. Throughout the season, Girardi has gained more and mo...
